Fees and Fundraisers – How much does this cost and how can I pay for it?
BSA National and Dan Beard Council Fees
$25 one-time new applicant fee
$80 annual membership fee
$5.50 insurance
Troop 18 does not charge any additional membership fees or dues
Costs of monthly camping & other events are collected at the time of the event
Scouts will also need a handbook and uniform
We participate in several fundraising opportunities as well as housing a used uniform closet to help defer these costs. If a Scout hustles all the costs can be covered by fundraising.
Most gear used for camp outs can be provided as needed by the troop
We are the oldest continuously operating troop in the greater Middletown area, celebrating our 87th year in 2023!
Our troop is youth led, and has at least one outing every month. We really like aquatics (kayaking, swimming, fishing), cooking over a fire, hiking / backpacking, and camping in our hammocks. One of our leaders backpacked the entire Appalachian Trail!
We also went to France and camped on Omaha Beach several years ago, and are going back in 2024!
Volunteers are vital to the success of any Scouts BSA troop and the Scouts they serve. It is an incredible experience to share with your child and one that will make memories that will last a lifetime.
Troop 18 is unique in that in addition to the wonderful parents, many adult volunteers are former youth members or parents of youth who have aged out. This gives us a stability that does not always exist with other troops, which helps explain our nearly 90 years of service!
