History of Troop 718
Troop 718 has a long history of Scouting in Middletown, Ohio. The troop published a history book for the troop’s 75th anniversary in 2011 (click here to download the history book in PDF form). The Troop was originally Troop 18 and started in 1927. Troop 18 had a lapse in charter in 1934 and 1935 but has been continuously chartered since 1936 – 2023 which is eighty seven years. Originally we were Troop 18 until the Mound Builders Area council merged with the Dan Beard Council in 1985 when it became Troop 718. Some still refer to our Troop as “Troop 18”.
Closely related to Troop 18 is BSA Camp Hook which originally opened in 1926 as a scout camp and operated by Dan Beard Council until 1997. Now Camp Hook is Twin-Creek Metro Park. Mr. Everett W. Sherron published A History of Boy Scout Camp Hook which can be downloaded here.
